The 'Call'
So, you got the ‘Call’...
What is the ‘Call’?
The curious voice within that wants to know more about mushrooms. That is the beginning of a self-discovery journey. Stepping on the path may only mean opening your mind enough to do some research. Or your fascination may take you to the edge of wanting to know what this experience may awaken within you.
Why do YOU feel interested in taking psilocybin?
Take a moment to close your eyes and scan through your body for the answer.
Maybe now you are just researching and gathering information so that in the future you have your mind wrapped around the benefits, effects, and precautions of working with psilocybin mushrooms. If in that moment of tuning into yourself, you decide that you feel ready to begin your mushroom journey then please consider the following suggestions we offer to you so that you can get the most out of your experience.
Dosage
Our suggestion is to start small. Especially if this is your first time experimenting with mushrooms, or if it's been a while.
Starting with the lowest dose is the best way to ensure a safe and beneficial experience. Your dosage is going to depend on your intention for working with mushrooms as well as your body/mind composition. If you are a tall, heavier person you may need more to feel the effects that you desire. As compared to a thinner, more sensitive type person. You know your body best, so definitely take that into consideration when choosing your beginning dose. It is better to start small and increase your dosage, then start with too big of a dose and be unprepared to navigate what comes up for you.
At Mycelia Embodiment Practice, we only offer doses up to 0.4 grams without a facilitator or holistic practitioner helping you with more of a ‘macro dose’.
0.4 grams is a higher micro dose, for most people it isn’t necessary for your microdosing regimen. 0.3-0.4-gram dose can be nice for wanting to enhance a particular experience when you would like to feel a bit more of the euphoric effects. Again, this is all dependent on the individual.
Mindset and Intention
The experience that one has under the influence of psilocybin is greatly varied and dependent upon the dosage, as described above, but also the mindset one has going into the experience. The mindset is the internalized characteristics that are unique to an individual, including cultural and social conditioning, personality, past traumas, beliefs, expectations, and the current state of one's mind and emotions. Psychedelic literally means 'mind manifesting', therefore whatever is going on within you has the potential to be manifested into greater awareness. That is why setting an intention is essential before you take psilocybin, so that you are consciously bringing into your mind and emotion what you would like to explore. We cannot overstate the importance of intention and how powerful it is.
Setting
This leads us into the next important thing to consider when working with mushrooms, which is the setting or environment. Especially when you are starting off and just getting a feel for what micro-dosing is, it is essential that you choose an environment that feels safe for you. What is a safe environment? It is a setting where you feel like you can express yourself authenticity and there is a sense of belonging there. As you become more comfortable with micro-dosing and build your own relationship with the mushroom, more spaces may become available for you to be in under their influence. Meaning, that you will know what it feels like to take a certain dosage and how that impacts your ability to react, function and socialize. In general, when you are taking a proper micro-dose, it actually can feel pretty safe to function in the world like normal. It may even enhance your desire and ability to socialize, or to be grounded within yourself.
Support
Another important thing to consider is who you are with when taking psilocybin. Especially when you just start working with mushrooms, you want to make sure that you are in control of who is in your energetic field or space. Ideally, you will be with people who feel safe, supportive and compassionate. When you take mushrooms, it is very possible to become more sensitive to your environment, including the people around you. That is why you should know yourself, the dosage and the mushroom before heading into unknown territory, such as a concert or event that is out of your control. Once you have more awareness of your relationship with the mushroom and know how you will feel, it is safer to put yourself in situations that are unknown and with people who you may not know.
This may all feel like common sense, but these are the conditions that will allow you to gain the most from what mushrooms have to offer. Think about it as though you are building a relationship. Take it slow and be receptive to what your boundaries are. If you are walking on the mushroom path or just dipping your toes in, you must meet the mushroom with humility, reverence, an open mind and heart, and a recognition that the consciousness delivered by the mushroom awakens something within yourself.
